The memory responds to training even in later years although the benefits may be more preventative than curing.  Both the long-term and short-term memory should be exercised on a daily basis and it is a good idea to combine both in one session.  Elderly residents may become frustrated when trying to remember in the short term. Remembering long term however, will be easier and residents will be encouraged by this and feel more capable and relaxed.  Stress, as we know, hinders recall.
